Mojang Finally Revamps Copper in Minecraft with Major September Update

After a prolonged wait, Mojang introduces meaningful uses for copper in Minecraft, turning a previously overlooked resource into a game changer.

On September 30, Minecraft will see significant updates to how players can use copper ore. Believed to be the least useful material in the game, copper will receive an array of crafting recipes that will enhance its utility, promising a fresh experience for players.

The upcoming “Copper Age” game drop includes new copper weapons, tools, armor, horse armor, and other crafted items, alongside the addition of a unique “copper golem” mob. This new creature will autonomously organize items placed inside copper chests to adjacent standard chests, and like other copper items, it will change color as it oxidizes over time.

While it might have been better to offer these copper tools from the introduction of the ore back in 2021, the late addition is still welcomed. Community mods had incorporated copper tools previously, so it’s exciting to see them making their way into the official gameplay.

Players will also notice the inclusion of shelves which can display three items, facilitating easy swaps into your inventory. These shelves and copper lanterns will be perfect for builders and decorators in the game, enhancing their creations.

The Copper Age update follows the Mounts of Mayhem release set for later in 2025, expanding the game’s combat and travel mechanisms with new weapons and mounts.
