Jagex's CEO Will Accept Revenue Losses to Rectify RuneScape 3's Microtransactions
Jon Bellamy, the CEO of Jagex, expresses his willingness to sacrifice revenue in order to address concerns regarding microtransactions in RuneScape 3, emphasizing the importance of integrity in gaming.
When discussing the changes to RuneScape 3 and its microtransaction structure, Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy stated that the company is ready to face revenue losses in the pursuit of integrity. Speaking at Gamescom, he emphasized the need for a long-term vision, stating:
“We probably won’t maintain the revenue that we currently are when we make these changes. That’s the truth. But equally, if we’re looking at a 10 or 15 or 25-year view, some short-term pain is probably worth the restoration of the game if we can get to that point.”
Bellamy is committed to changing the monetization impact on players and mentioned the recent experimental removal of their treasure hunter microtransaction layer, a practice not seen since its introduction in 2012.
