Twitch Introduces a New Rewind Feature, Not Without Limits
Twitch has unveiled a long-awaited rewind feature that allows streamers and viewers to go back in their streams, but with specific requirements.
Twitch has finally added the long-requested rewind feature, allowing streamers and viewers to rewind a stream. However, there are some caveats involved. Both Twitch streamers and their viewers will need to meet certain requirements to utilize this new feature.
Twitch Rewind Feature
Though Twitch is arguably the leader in livestreaming platforms, other services like YouTube have offered rewind options that have been missing from Twitch until now. Users have been asking for this feature for a long time, and it’s finally here!
Twitch Adds Rewind Feature, But With Some Caveats
On September 25, Twitch introduced the Stream Rewind function, now available for use. Viewers can pause a stream, rewind to a previous moment, and return to the real-time stream with a new ‘Live’ button on the video player. However, this feature is currently available only to certain types of users, and streamers must activate it. By default, the rewind option is off for all channels.
From the streamer side, Twitch requires users to be either Affiliated or Partnered to use this feature and must enable it manually. Viewers also need to subscribe to the channel they are watching or be a Turbo subscriber. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has mentioned that these limitations are set to prevent users from skipping ads, and there’s no timeline for when this feature might be accessible to non-subscribers.
While this feature has been highly anticipated, users may still be dissatisfied with its limitations compared to competing platforms that allow rewinding without restrictions.
