A total of 22 esports organizations have expressed concerns regarding the new tournament system introduced by Valve, stating it is unbalanced. In a recently released letter, they highlighted that the system lacks opportunities for fair qualification, particularly criticizing the reliance on open qualifiers for tier-one events, which may disadvantage many teams.
“The system as it stands is not a level playing field,” they stated.
The collective noted that not all significant tournaments allow open qualifiers, creating an environment where only select teams can gain ranking points, effectively pushing many others out of contention.
Prominent organizations like Ninjas in Pyjamas, FURIA, MOUZ, and Falcons were among those signing the letter, aiming for adjustments that would benefit the competitive landscape.
The teams requested a review of the overall system and highlighted that transparency and proper communication from Valve are essential to avoid uncertainties that could hurt player careers and organizational operations. They ended their letter with a plea for Valve to reintroduce more open qualifying opportunities, particularly for major events.
