Cloudflare Thwarts Massive DDoS Attack Peaking at 22.2 Tbps

Cloudflare successfully mitigates one of the largest DDoS attacks recorded, reaching an astonishing 22.2 Tbps, almost double the size of previous threats.

Cloudflare has announced that it successfully blocked a massive DDoS attack that peaked at 22.2 Tbps. This attack nearly doubles the size of the previous largest recorded attack, which was a staggering 11.5 Tbps. Cloudflare stated it autonomously mitigated attacks of this scale, which reached a peak of 10.6 billion packets per second (Bpps). The attack reportedly lasted for just 40 seconds.

“Cloudflare just autonomously blocked hyper-volumetric DDoS attacks twice as large as anything seen on the Internet before — peaking at 22.2 Tbps & 10.6 Bpps. Can your mitigation provider’s scrubbing capacity handle that scale?”
(Translated: Cloudflare successfully handled an unprecedented DDoS attack, exhibiting their capability in cybersecurity.)

As investigations continue, more details on the attack mechanics are expected to be released.
