Pragmata Reveals Combat Gameplay and Hacking Mechanics

Capcom provides fans with new insights into the gameplay of its upcoming action-adventure title, Pragmata, scheduled for a 2026 release.

Capcom fans got a detailed look at Pragmata’s gameplay during a dedicated online presentation for the Tokyo Game Show 2025. This showcased various aspects, including its innovative hacking puzzles and combat mechanics. While the game won’t be available until 2026, more information is being revealed steadily.

The anticipation for Pragmata began with its announcement in 2020, featuring cybernetically enhanced characters Hugh and Diana as they navigate a danger-filled outer space research facility. Initially, the game was slated for a 2022 release, but a sequence of delays pushed it back to 2026. Fortunately, Capcom affirmed the game’s future release earlier this year.

Pragmata Showcases Hacking Puzzles and Combat

The near three-minute trailer that began the Capcom Online Program for Tokyo Game Show 2025 introduces Hugh and Diana in a shelter, where Diana uploads a hacking program via a port in her mouth to weaken enemy defenses. As the trailer transitions into combat, viewers see Diana riding on Hugh’s shoulder while she hacks an enemy robot, leading to high damage output from Hugh’s pistol.

Moreover, the trailer displayed the variety within Pragmata’s combat, showing off different hacks and weapon configurations that provide unique benefits. This includes Diana’s ability to execute ‘Multihack’ to debuff multiple foes simultaneously and creative puzzle solutions that assist Hugh in evading attacks from robots.

In addition to hacking, Hugh can utilize various weapons, including the Charge Piercer, which fires charged energy shots, and the Decoy Generator, which grants time for strategic attacks.

While the focus predominantly remained on combat, glimpses into the protagonists’ personalities and their relationship hinted at deeper narrative elements, drawing comparisons to the dynamics between Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us. The trailer concludes with a lighthearted moment as the duo strategizes their next move.
