Euro Truck Simulator 2's Realism Contributes to Driver Fatigue Research

A study utilizes Euro Truck Simulator 2 to explore driver fatigue, enhancing safety features in automobiles.

SCS Software, the creator of the popular Euro Truck Simulator 2, reveals that the game is being used for scientific research on driver fatigue. Mr. Martinka of the Liberec Technical University’s Faculty of Textiles noted that the game is the ideal platform for simulating real driving conditions safely.

“ETS2 was the simplest and the most practical solution because it mirrors real driving conditions. The game allowed us to simulate fatigue safely. We needed a reliable platform to simulate long hours of driving, and the game provided exactly that.”

Martinka’s experiments involve participants maintaining simulated driving conditions in a car seat with a steering wheel for up to seven hours, aiming to understand the signs of microsleep better. His team is developing a smart T-Shirt that tracks the wearer’s breathing, which could enhance existing vehicle fatigue detection systems.

Furthermore, a new phase of experimentation is set to take place in Japan later this year, continuing the innovative use of the game. SCS Software also continues to update Euro Truck Simulator 2 with new packs, like the recent Greek Mythology Pack, that adds a creative twist to the game.
